Melinda Sommer
Melinda’s main areas of work focus on the analysis and development of models which are used to forecast US acreage, yields and production of crops. This provides insight on any changes to upcoming USDA estimates.

As a Commodity Production Analyst within the Informa Economics IEG Acreage and Production team, Melinda is primarily responsible for expanding the team’s analytical and forecasting capabilities for the US and the world.

 

In addition to helping manage her family’s row crop and hog operation in southern Minnesota, she conducted agriculture research at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and taught farm and ranch management in the SDSU Economics Department.

 

Melinda achieved both her bachelor’s degree in agricultural business and her master’s degree in economics from SDSU.
